Previously, we covered the basics on mobile web advertising. Today, we’ll go over the great next step in mobile internet: Android.
Android is an SDK (software development kit) to offer the first completely free mobile web platform. Based on the Linux operating system, Android is currently under development by Google and the Open Handset Alliance (some other members include Sprint, T-Mobile, and Motorola). From a business point of view, the new SDK provides competition for Apple (iPhone) and Microsoft (Windows Mobile). The representatives for both companies were very tactful in their responses to the announcement of Android back in November 2007. Other manufacturers may attempt an alliance. It is possible that Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will try out Android on their devices later in the year.
Watch the video below for a demonstration of Google Android on a phone. Just to give you a sense of real authenticity, the video editor never bothered to take out the loading portion of the demo. Remember how we stated mobile web devices are kind of slow? Maybe we’re just spoiled by broadband nowadays.
