How often and how well you place keywords in your content will have have great effect on search engine spiders. You should afford some finesse in the writing; you don’t want to repeat your keywords in a clunky fashion, or it could deter users from actually reading your content. However, here are a few guidelines you should consider when inputting keywords into your text.

Keyword Density
Keyword density is the ratio of keywords in the total amount of indexable text. It has been recommended to have a keyword density of 2 to 8 percent. However, be advised that the approved ratio differs from search engine to search engine. You may use this free web tool to get an idea of the keyword density in your content: http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com/.

Keyword Proximity
Keyword proximity is how close the keywords appear in relation to each other. Usually, you want the keywords to appear as close together as possible. It seems that search engines figure that keywords that are far apart may have little relevance with the subject of a target search term.

Keyword Prominence
The actual placement of a keyword in the webpage also has an effect. It is best to put the keywords at or near the top of the page in the headline, beginning title, or meta tag. Of course, an article or blog post title with the keyword in it is a great SEO technique.

Keyword Recurrence
Keyword density aside, the sheer number of times the keyword appears is another search engine factor. Of course, this does not mean that you should repeat the keywords in an unseemly manner. The search engine may view it as abuse, and readers will most certainly feel like they’re being spammed. Or simply very confused and annoyed.

So, before writing out your content, think of the subject matter that would interest keyword searchers. Write down a list and try them out in a couple of drafts before using the live keyword analysis.
